Blood Tests

Blood Tests

Understanding your blood tests is an effective way of knowing your current health, and when tracked over time you can get quantifiable feedback so you can make needed changes proactively.  It is an opportunity to learn more about what the different measurements mean in partnership with your doctors.  Educating yourself is important.

Tests are available through your doctor or directly through a lab in your area.

In the US each lab develops there own reference range for each test where they select a population of people they consider normal, and those that fall within a 95% confidence interval is deemed to be normal.  Lab results can differ for the following reasons:

  • Operating conditions could vary
  • Criteria for selection of a healthy patient are different
  • Patient populations are different
  • Geographic areas cause differences because of altitudes, barometric pressure, etc.
  • Subject preparation and sample collection may differ
